26/11 : Director’s Cut
by Rahul on Jun.11, 2010, under Movie Review
A slumdog desperately trying to become a millionaire (Con)
A Muslim running away from his past, country and fellow Hindus (Religion stereotype)
A wanna-be-rockstar rebel candidate determined to prove his mother wrong (Freewill)
A prostitute making plans of running her own brothel (Prostitution)
A family too poor to pay back loans and lead a normal life (Organ trade)
5 of the most sensitive issues in India, and…
100 cinema goers desperately waiting for the mid-movie break to figure
WHAT THE FUCK was going through the director’s mind,
{WHERE, WHEN, HOW, WHY} THE FUCK will these 5 subplots merge and
WHO THE FUCK set their GTalk/Twitter statuses to ‘Vedam is good’ that morning
Justice is swift, at least in Tollywood.
Had Allu Arjun been in Mumbai on that fateful day, more lives would have been saved. More importantly, Kasab would not have made it this far for Allu Arjun breaks his neck in the movie. That is Vedam for you. Someone was eventually going to make a movie on the 26/11 attack. New York came out 8 years after the 11/9 attack (DDMM format in India people!). “So why not me?” thought Krish, Vedam’s director. But probably due to the movie’s budget issues, the terrorists had to attack a government hospital and not a 7 star hotel (A small note to terrorists – our government hospitals kill more number of people every day than you ever can.). The movie also did away with expensive SMGs, rifles and explosives by using raw human strength – Allu Arjun’s newly acquired 6 pack for big time flop Varudu and Manchu Manoj’s, err, good body. And just in case the heroes ran short of muscle, their girlfriends (usually called heroines though they have no role other than dancing with the hero) had enough body piercings to finish the job. And since when do ‘Guest Appearances’ appear throughout the movie, intertwined with main plot?
FYI: Anushka’s screen time is not more than 10 minutes (for those of you who are planning to watch the movie for her, like I did)
Now I cannot help but wonder how RGV’s movie on Paritaala Ravi will turn out.
3 years ago, Trivikram came out with Jalsa. Good quality comedy ran throughout the movie. However, the director had some punch lines in his mind for a really long time. The dialogues were written. And that shaped the plot. Not that Jalsa was the first movie to do so, but it deserved a much better, well planned story.
And now Krish’s Vedam. I did not find anything good Krish’s Gamyam either, except Allari Naresh’s comedy, Kamlini Mukherjee’s once-in-a-blue-moon appearances. But then I heard people speak so highly of Vedam, so I decided to give it a try.
Wrong Move! (Another small note to readers: Watch Crash and then Vedam (Crash’s pathetic remake))
Have to watch ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ soon…

heavily inspired from crash!! It was attempted before with OmShanti but the director did not have the fame as Krish and Kajal is definitely not as eye-catching as Anushka.

It was like watching Gamyam all over again. The script is text book stuff. It is difficult to get it wrong commercially.
And, I don’t know if you guys noticed but, the camera work is very bad. School boy mistakes all over.

I think cinematography is one of the plus points of the film and that guy has a great control over the camera. However, in some places sense of direction is lost which is amateurish from director/editor of movie.

//A small note to terrorists – our government hospitals kill more number of people every day than you ever can.
Lol….
I have not watched the movie yet, so no comments but you didn’t like gamyam either? It’s a pretty decent film to come out of tollywood.

@Sarika You seem determined to be cynical about this movie
I mean, say, even before you entered the theatre. I might be wrong – but, looks like you have made up your mind that given lots of people are on the other side, let me be a hater! Just kidding. Move on.
Give him a break. It is tollywood — do not compare with anything else except possibly with telugu movies which were came out in the last 2 years. Appreciate the epsilon deviation from the routine 6 songs, 3 fight formula. It is a start.
@Daka Multi-Starer is an oxymoron in (modern day)telugu movies — No more what they say in public, the actors have got some issues between them.

All I am saying is that an event like 26/11 deserves a much better presentation on screen. Anthe.

One should not make movies based (even loosely) on disturbing and dark incidents like 26/11. They should have ended it a different way.

Until the part where all the characters and plots meet, I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was very very good. The last 20 minutes were filmy, in the sense that ,looked like the director has to sell out to make the movie follow at least one commercial norm.
But, your review sounds too harsh with little reason

I guess , u guys expected a lot from the movie (cause of all those tweets , status mesgs everything ), and it definitely disappointed you. you can’t compare telugu movies with Hollywood ones ,
but this definitely is not a typical telugu movie , yeah its not perfect movie , it has its shortcomings but still for telugu movie to deviate this much from well established formulas of industry , is definitely worth appreciating and quite refreshing to see

The biggest joke about that movie is calling it a multi-starer with the so-called “stars” hardly sharing any screen space.

finally found someone who did not like the movie … lite ehe …
