Dosa Plaza – A Review
by Rahul on Apr.26, 2009, under Food, Fun, Passing Time
Of all the members in our gang, it was always Kirthi who never failed me when it came to eating real food (read as non-mess food). Everybody else used to be busy doing something or the other and had no time to go out. Kirthi on the other hand managed his time so well that even after running marathons of every TV show and movie (including B, C grades), racing cars and shooting terrorists during his four year stay, he came out of IIIT (hyphen H) with THE Gold Medal.
After I got my Unicorn, it was just Kirthi and me due to lack of transportation for others rather than time. We explored many new places. It was during one such visit (Dosa Plaza) that Kirthi and I got the idea to review all the places we ate from then on and blog them with photos for the sake of our juniors and other Hyderabadis. This project unfortunately had to be put on hold almost immediately for Kirthi’s lethargy binded him to his chair. About an year later, I forgot my $450 worth Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 camera in the cab that drove me to the airport and this was the final blow to the project.
Anyway, here is the review of ‘Dosa Plaza’
—————————————
Place: Dosa Plaza (I am not sure if this place exists now
)
Location: Banjara Hills Road No. 1, in the building next to Main Land China. We stumbled onto this place by accident – it is practically invisible.

Location
Landmarks: Mainland China, UniverCell
Cuisine: As the name suggests, dosas and other South Indian tiffins
Cost per person: Rs. 100/-
Even before one enters the restaurant, thanks to the interesting design, one gets a fairly good view of its restrooms. We actually went over our decision to check out the place.

Entrance

Another View of Entrance
The place is quite small and looking at the high ratio of waiters to customers at lunch time on a weekday, very few people seem to be aware of its existence. Maybe the presence of Mainland China next door is making its life difficult. The ambiance of the place is average and the service not up to the mark.
The food however is pretty okay. Take a look at the number of items on the menu placed on the top of the counter. I mean, they have around a hundred varieties of dosa but the variation is the basically the stuffing they put inside.

Counter
I believe we ordered Spring Roll Dosa , Manchurian and something else (This was more than a year back, so I have very little idea of the details). Luckily for us, these turned out to be great. They are filling too. I mean, we had a total of just 3 dosas and we were done.

Something Else
To sum it up, if one is looking for a quick bite or to try something odd – Dosa Plaza is a really good option. Of course, for the best of South Indian tiffins (expensive) there is always Chutneys.

I think you are referring to ‘99 varieties of Dosa’ or something like that, located in a cellar adjacent to the BOSE showroom. I have been there, and yes it is not as good as Dosa Plaza.

Super snack bar in Kolkata is a similar place
It is now a big brand in Eastern India.I think the dosa plaza chap should learn business development from this guy, since the food items offered are the nearly similar looking (and perhaps similar tasting too)
